What is an EMI Calculator?

An EMI (Equated Monthly Installment) is the fixed amount you pay every month towards a loan. ToolLove's EMI Calculator uses the standard reducing-balance formula โ€” EMI = P ร— r ร— (1+r)n / ((1+r)n โˆ’ 1) โ€” where P is the loan principal, r is the monthly interest rate and n is the number of monthly installments.

Along with the EMI, you get the total interest payable over the full tenure and a complete amortization schedule showing exactly how each payment splits between principal and interest โ€” invaluable when comparing home, car and personal loan offers from different banks.

EMI = P ร— r ร— (1+r)n / ((1+r)n โˆ’ 1), where P = loan amount, r = annual rate รท 12 รท 100 (monthly rate), n = tenure in months. Early EMIs are mostly interest; later ones are mostly principal.

No โ€” this shows the pure principal + interest EMI. Banks often add processing fees (0.25%โ€“1%), insurance and taxes on top, so your actual outgo may be slightly higher.

On long tenures (20โ€“30 years), interest often exceeds the principal itself. Try shortening the tenure or checking the amortization schedule โ€” you'll see interest share shrinking rapidly in later years.

By default you see a compact yearly summary. Use the "Monthly view" button to expand all months with exact principal, interest and balance for every single payment.
